On A Slow Day

On a slow day in the clinic I inserted a nasopharyngeal airway into myself. Why? During our recent mass casualty incident training exercise, Barbie Brittel, PA-C explained that a NP airway could be used on an awake patient. She told us she knew a guy who demonstrated this ability on himself. We were amazed. The more I thought of it the more curious I became. So, I tried it.

Please do not try this on yourself. I am a highly trained medical professional. Likely, you are not.

Greetings from near the other pole in the frigid north.
My EMT-B instructor said he once took a picture of an entire class with NPAs in their noses. He also says it is a great way to get an unrully patient to be quiet. If someone shoved something up my nose I would probably be quiet too. Not my idea of fun time though.

OK Don, 2 thoughts are going through my mind:
1) You party ANIMAL!!!
2) Does Dave Letterman still do "Stupid Human Tricks"?!?! ;-)

There's got to be something seriously wrong with the genes in this family, since I'd totally do the same thing. Alaina says she'll videotape it for me if I choose to do the same :P

Glad to see it's still like father like daughter!

Now that was just cool. I can't wait until I'm a highly trained medical professional as well!

You may be a highly trained medical professional- but I think the severe cold has affected your brain. Take Care!

It must be a magic trick as your hand blocked most of the video. You can now show us putting it one ear and taking it out the other. Highly trained.......
